Zawia, 21 October:
The President of the National General Congress Mohammed . . .[restrict]Magarief today, Sunday, inaugurated the reconstruction of the Martyrs’ Square Mosque in Zawia.
It was destroyed by Qaddafi forces during the siege of the town in February and March last year. The minaret, hit by anti-aircraft fire, became an early icon of the regime’s absolute determination to destroy everything that got in its way.
The local people of Zawia have decided to rebuild it as both a mosque and an Islamic teaching centre.
Photos of Zawia’s martyrs were exhibited as part of the inauguration. [/restrict]
