Three Libyans arrested in Dhaka with 684 fake passports

Three Libyans and a Bangladeshi woman arrested with fake passports and cash in Dhaka.

Dhaka, 24 October:

Three Libyans were arrested early today, Wednesday, in Bangladesh on charges of fraudulently offereing Bangaldeshis jobs in . . .[restrict]Libya. The Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka police arrested the three along with a Bangladeshi woman, described as a model, at an hotel in the city. They are reported to have been caught with fake passports, $200,000-worth of US and local currency and other valuables.

Acting on a tip-off, plain clothes police raided two rooms at the Lake Shore Hotel in the city’s Gulshan district at two o’clock in the morning according to Dhaka Metropolitan Assistant Police Commissioner Mollah Nazrul Islam. He said that the three Libyans were involved in the manpower business and had been taking cash from unemployed Bangladeshis in return for the promise of jobs in Libya.

They have been named as 36-year-old Samir Ahmed Omar Fardg, Amara Mahmud Amra, 23, and Mabruk Fardg Salem, 30. The woman was named as 22-year-old Priyanka Zaman.

A total of 684 fake Bangladeshi passports was well $181,304 and one million Bangaldeshi Taka,  seven mobile phones, four laptops, alcohol, credit cards and identity cards were recovered from their possessions, the deputy commissioner said.

Legal proceeding are now underway against the detainees who, according to the police, had confessed being involved in the manpower business and using fake passports. [/restrict]
