Arms smuggled across the border from Libya were seized on Tuesday by Egyptian security forces and the smugglers apprehended.
According . . .[restrict]to Egypt’s Interior Minister, General Ahmed Gamal Eddin, two truckloads of weapons were seized near Mersa Matruh. They included 25 rockets, 102 rocket-propelled grenades and 102 mortar rounds
Neither the nationalities nor the number of the smugglers was disclosed.
Large qualities of arms from Libya have been smuggled into Egypt over the past year. Many of them have ended up in the hands of militants in Sinai or been taken on into Gaza. [/restrict]
