Dear Editor,
For every American who died freeing Iraq and Kuwait, protecting Saudi Arabia, removing the Taliban from Afghanistan, supporting the UN . . .[restrict]in Somalia in 1993, and the Marines’ mission to Beirut in 1983, this is the ultimate slap in the face.
America has spent trillions in the Middle East and while not everything we have done has been perfect, we have tried to protect people from oppresive regimes. And we have tried to maintain the flow of oil which is vital to the word economy.
Our history speaks for itself.
America has for centruries freed those oppressed, reached out to those in need.
Last year we provided (along with other NATO nations) the necessary air support; that the people of Libya needed to defeat a tyrant. Neither America or the other NATO members sought to become a controlling power in Libya. America is one of the best friends Libya ever had — when you measure your friends by those who show up at your darkest hour to rescue you.
I call upon the people of Libya to remind your neighbours of these facts. And I call upon the people of Libya to take action to defend America — just as Libyans called out to America last year to help them.
I implore Libyans to take to the streets declaring solidarity with America — the America that ,with other NATO allies, gave you the military support to defeat a tyrant and free Libya from tyranny.
Yours,
Rex Mooore, USA
