Tripoli, 13 August:
Nexans, the French cable industry expert, has been awarded major contracts to supply Libya’s Public Electrical Works Company (PEWCO) . . .[restrict]with cables to upgrade the country’s power transmission and distribution infrastructure.
The contracts, worth €110 million, involve the manufacture and supply of over 1,000 km of high-voltage and medium-voltage cables. PEWCO, a subsidiary of the General Electricity Company of Libya (GECOL) will be responsible for installing the cables. Nexans’ contracts will include providing technical assistance and training for PEWCO and GECOL employees.
The 245-kV cables will be supplied by Nexans France and Nexans Greece will supply 33 kV and 15 kV cables, as well as optical fibre cables needed for control and monitoring of cable temperatures. The delivery and installation of these cables will continue during 2012 and 2013.
Nexans has an industrial presence in over 40 countries and has been involved with Libya since 2004, when it won a contract to provide high-voltage underground power transmission links in Tripoli and Benghazi. [/restrict]
