Libya, honour the sacrifices of our population equally and ensure both genders are fully represented in the new government, new constitution and new institutions being rebuilt now. Set a solid foundation for generations to come. Aim for at least 40% men and at least 40% women at all levels of decision-making process.
Because we cannot afford to exclude women from the process…
Libya’s infrastructure and institutions are in ruins. We need all our talent and resources to rebuild. Libyan women are a serious asset, most are highly educated and bring real working experience to the table. United Nations and World Bank reports show it is bad economic policy to neglect the role of women in rebuilding the country.

Under international law, such as UN Security Council Resolution 1325, Libya is obligated to ensure women are included and promoted in a systematic and structured way into all government institutions, constitution development, elections, policing and with the judiciary processes.
Because we have the chance to dream big …Libya has a unique opportunity to be a role model for the region and for the world…
Libya, use this window of opportunity to establish a fair and democratic society for women and men. Cultural and religious values are important but should not be mis-used to exclude sections of the population because of a prejudice. This undermines human rights and equality before the law. Women can contribute positively at home or outside the home and should be supported in their roles by strong, clear laws and policies moving protecting their decisions and future rights.
Libyan women have stepped forward as election candidates, election organisers, civil servants, activists and more. Libyan women demand and deserve equal participation in drafting the new constitution which will shape the future for generations to come.
It has been said publicly and privately that including women in government and in the decision-making is not and should not be a priority. This type of thinking is outdated and is danger to our society. It is essential for Libya’s future stability and success that women be included now!
