Ghadames April 9,

(WAL)  A convoy of humanitarian aid left Ghadames on Sunday April 8 on its way to the Tunisian city . . .[restrict]of Tataouine.

The Libyan official news agency WAL corrspondent in Ghadames said that this convoy, supervised by the Ghadames Relief Commission, included food and clothing. The convoy demonstrated solidarity with the Tunisian people, and aimed to promote brotherly relations between the two countries.

Relations between the people of Libya and Tunisia have been especially close since last year when both countries went through their respective ‘Arab Spring’ Revolutions. However, border towns had to deal with large numbers of refugees from Libya either fleeing fighting in their neighbourhoods or simply seeking better living conditions.

The convoy is seen as a ‘thank-you’ gift to Tatouine for its great generosity and often considerable patience towards its Libyan guests last year. Despite their relative poverty compared to Libyans, the people there shared their food and homes free of charge with Libyan who had fled across the Dheba-Wazen border crossing. [/restrict]
