Benghazi, March 23: There was a mass march in . . .[restrict]Benghazi on Friday by regular soldiers and policemen demanding that the army and state security services be fully reactivated.
Large numbers of the public joined in as the marchers, led by army and police vehicles, headed towards the city’s Tahrir Square.
There is strong support throughout the east for the armed forces and the police to return to their duties and be the only forces responsible for the country’s security. When on February 21, the government ordered militias to hand over all ports and airports to the national authorities giving them a deadline of Monday, March 5, brigades in the east of the country complied with the order. Those in the west did not. [/restrict]
