The new chief of the higher security committee in Derna, Colonel Mohammed Al-Hassi, was assassinated this afternoon when unknown assailants shot . . .[restrict]him outside a petrol station in the town. He died before arriving at the hospital.
Al-Hassi was one of the investigators into Derna’s Annour and Abu Slim Martyrs brigades. He had previously survived from two earlier assassination attempts in one of which one of his legs was injured.
He was also the head of Derna’s department for fighting drugs, was highly respected locally, and worked hard to track drugs dealers during and before the revolution.
