Tripoli, March 28: Algeria has formally asked Libya to lift visa restrictions on Algerian nationals travelling to the country. They were . . .[restrict]imposed in March last year.
Algeria also wants the resumption of flights between the two countries according to minutes of meetings in Algiers between the Minister of Interior, Fawzi Albdulal and his opposite Algerian number, Daho Ould Kablia.
Abdulal was in Algiers for two days of talks this week.
Algeria’s requests are seen as part of its efforts to rebuild shattered relations with Libya. They were badly damaged by the support Algeria gave throughout much of last year to the Qaddafi regime followed by its decision to give asylum to several members of the Qaddafi family.
At a joint press conference on Tuesday, the two interior ministers also said they would not allow elements of the former regime to harm the security of Libya from Algerian territory.
Algeria still refuses to hand over Qaddafi’s family or supporters resident in Algeria.
