The Interior Ministry has announced that will take over all airports, seaports and border crossings within a fortnight.
“All land, sea and . . .[restrict]air ports will be handed over to the interior ministry in less than two weeks from the date of this decision,” it announced on its website.
At present, Tripoli International Airport is controlled by members of the Zintan Brigade. Members of other brigades also control the border crossings.
There have been a number of incidents at the Ras Jedir crossing on the Tunisian border involving Libyan militiamen, resulting to its closure at least four times. The crossing is held by members of the Zuara brigade.
Earlier this month, a Tunisian border guard was briefly seized and held by brigadesmen and on Saturday evening an argument between brigadesmen resulted in shooting, with shots landing on the Tunisian side of the border.
As a result the NTC have been under growing pressure from Tunis to replace the militiamen with normal border guards.
