Two French minesweepers arrived at Tripoli on Tuesday to help clear mines from the country’s oil ports.
Speaking at Tripoli port, Libyan . . .[restrict]Defence Ministry spokesman Ahmed Bani said the French naval personnel abroad would also “help to train our navy officers and help us build up our naval forces in order to maintain the security of our shores”.
There has been considerable concern on the north side of the Mediterranean arms and people smugglers operating off Libya’s poorly secured coast.
The country’s oil ports had been heavily mined by the Qaddafi regime last year in a bid to prevent the NTC exporting Libyan oil. [/restrict]
