Tripoli: At a meeting on Monday in the capital, the National Transitional Council refused to accept the resignation of its former . . .[restrict]deputy chairman and spokesman, Abdel Hafiz Ghoga. He resigned on 22 January saying it was in the “best interests of Libya” after being assaulted three days earlier by angry students when he visited the University of Benghazi. The students were demanding transparency and accused him of opportunism.
Increasing criticism of the NTC had focussed on Ghoga in recent weeks.
“The NTC in its meeting examined the resignation of its deputy and rejected it,” said Intisar al-Akili a spokesperson for the NTC after Monday’s meeting.
There has been no comment from the former deputy chairman as to whether he will now withdraw his resignation. At the time he resigned it was reported that he had not submitted a formal letter of resignation.
