Tripoli, 18 October 2014:
Gharian Municipal Council is said to have agreed the UN’s demand for a ceasefire in the . . .[restrict]nearby fighting between Libya Dawn forces and the Libyan National Army (NLA).
The head of the municipal council’s information committee, Shukri Bilah, reportedly said today that the council had accepted UNSMIL’s demand for an immediate end to all military operations in the Jebel Nafusa starting mid-night 18 Oct for minimum of four days in order to facilitate the provision of humanitarian aid.
UNSMIL had sent letters to that effect to Zintan, Gharian and Kikla Municipal councils.
However, Bilah also said that the local Saraya Gharian brigade, together with other Libya Dawn forces stationed in the town, had not attacked anyone and were there purely to defend it.
Some pro-Libya Dawn media claim that Gharian has rejected the demand. Counter claims that Gharian Municipal Council has meanwhile told the Saraya Gharian brigade leader Adel Daab to remove his forces from the town and fight his battles elsewhere have not been verified either. [/restrict]
