Tripoli, 28 July 2014:
The Libyan government has called for local and foreign assistance to control a massive blaze at . . .[restrict]the Brega Oil and Gas Company’s depot on Tripoli’s Airport Road which was was hit in an overnight missile attack. Tripoli Security Directorate has also warned local residents within a five-kilometre radius to evacuate their homes. There are fears of massive explosions if other tanks, including gas tanks, explode.
Forces led by former Misrata Congressman Salah Badi fired at the fuel tanks which hold million of litres of petrol with several grad rockets early this morning.
Despite efforts by the Civil Defense Forces, firefighters, engineers and technical teams from Brega Company to control the blaze, it has continued to rage all day. At least 100 firemen with 13 fire engines have been battling it.
The government put out an appeal on it website for all organisations with fire trucks to go the depot and help fight the struggling firefighters put out the blaze. It also called on those involved in the clashes that caused the fire to stop shooting which is endangering the lives of the firefighters.
