Tripoli, 3 July 2014:
The High National Electoral Commission (HNEC) has annulled the results from 23 polling stations following the . . .[restrict]discovery of electoral fraud at them. It has not stated the nature of the fraud or which stations were involved.
However, a letter has been published on social media purportedly signed by HNEC president Emad Al-Sayah cancelling results of a station at the Abdullah Ben Rauaha school (polling centre No. 14255) in the Janzur sub-constituency.
It is not known if the letter is authentic.
The HNEC announcement came after checking the provisional results from 120 polling stations.
“ We are still in the process of checking results from many polling centres around the country,” HNEC observers’ coordinator Malak Al-Shali told the Libya Herald. “We’re also still in the process of receiving complaints,” she added.
It is not clear if the decision will mean polling will have to be re-run in the 23 districts. An announcement from HNEC is expected on Sunday.
