Tripoli, 2 October:
Four people elected to the General National Congress in July but who were then disqualified by the Integrity Commission . . .[restrict]have failed to convince the courts to overturn the Commission’s decision. It was announced on Monday that the ban had been upheld.
The four are: Abdulhamid Daw Ali Al-Khanjari, the independent member for Batin Al-Jabal in the Jebel Nafusa; Abd Rabbah Yousef Mikael Bu Breg, an independent member for Beida; and both independent members for Ghat, Abdulqader Sidi Omar Sidi Eshaikh El-Hash and Mohamed Ibrahim Makhi Abdulqader.
Had any of the four been elected on the party lists, their seats would have been automatically taken by the next name on the list. However, because they stood as indendents, there will have to be fresh elections in all three places.
The appeals of another three people who were also disbarred by the commission after the elections are still under consideration.
Meanwhile, the Integrity Commission today announced that one of Bani Walid’s two independent members, Salem Al-Ahmar Al-Hadi Ali, has now also been disbarred from Congress. [/restrict]
