Tripoli, 23 March 2016:
Fighting in Zawia between the Ahneish and Khadrawi families and their supporters continued for the fifth . . .[restrict]day today, with no sign of an end in sight.
“I can still hear the noise of explosions and of shooting”, one resident told the Libya Herald this evening. Much of the fighting has again been in the town centre, particularly in Jamal Abdul Nasser Street. Shops and schools are again closed.
However, there are suggestions that the Khadrawi family and their militia is getting the better of the Ahneish despite the latter being supported by Zawia’s hitherto powerful Islamist militia leader, Abu Obeida Al-Zawi. It is reported that the Ahneish family home was burned down today.
Most of the Abu Obeida’s forces, however, are reported to be outside Zawia, [/restrict]
