The three members of the Presidency Council’s Temporary Security Committee (TSC) arrested yesterday on arrival at . . .[restrict]Tripoli’s Mitiga airport are reported to be facing treason changes. The Public Prosecutor allegedly plans to charge them with collaborating with foreign bodies and trying to overthrow the Libyan government.
The charges, if proven, could result in the death penalty.
Colonels Omar Mohamed Douaiher, Abu Ghassem Amin Ali and Abdulhakim Muftah Warefelli were detained as they arrived from Tunisia. They were released after two hours of interrogation, but their passports were confiscated and they were told they had to report to public prosecutor today. This they did this morning.
The TSC was set up under Annex No. 6 of the Libyan Political Agreement (LPA), endorsed by the UN Security Council.
As part of the LPA, its members are seen as having UN protection and any a degree of immunity. Any violation of that status is likely to result in a strong response from the UN and the international community. [/restrict]
