Tobruk, 28 January 2015:

The President of the House of Representatives, Ageela Salah Gwaider, flew to Addis Ababa from . . .[restrict]Tobruk today to attend the AU summit on 30 January. He is due to give a report on Libya to other African heads of state attending the 24th ordinary session of the AU assembly.

Meanwhile in Tripoli, in what appears to be an attempt to circumvent the fact that he had not been been invited, the president of the rump Congress, Nuri Abu Sahmain, met ambassadors and chargés d’affaires from a number of African countries to discuss relations with them and building links with the AU.

According to Libya news agency LANA’s Tripoli bureau, which backs Congress and the Hassi regime, Abu Sahmain and deputy Congress leader Salah Makhzoum met envoys from Burkina Faso, the Central African Republic, Comoros, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Eritrea, Mali, Morocco, Niger, Somalia and Sudan.

LANA reported Abu Sahmain saying that he wants direct communication with the parliaments of African countries “so that the African Union can play a greater role through political dialogue and find a peaceful solution to the current political crisis experienced by Libya”.
