 Tripoli, 18 September 2014:

Negotiations to exchange prisoners and war-dead as fighting continues between the Libyan Revolutionaries’ . . .[restrict]Operations Room and Warhsefana have stalled.

Conflicting reports of the discussions have emerged from within Warshefana as both sides attempt to retrieve their dead and those taken prisoner.

Warshefana military sources told the Libya Herald that their leadership had been unwilling to handover Shaaban Hadia Al-Zawi, better known as Abu Obeida, who was taken prisoner during fighting two days ago. He is reportedly still in a critical condition after sustaining a blow to the head and losing a hand. He has been receiving treatment at Warshefana’s Zahra Hospital.

Warshefana said it is unwilling to trade Zawi along with the bodies of Muhamed Luwai Al-Bishti, Salah Wadi and Sheikh Mohammed Al-Kilani, a former GNC member, all of whom were killed in fighting in recent days. They claim that, following the issuing of UN sanctions last month , Zawi may be wanted by the International Criminal Court to face charges.

However earlier reports from within Warshefana indicated that Zawi had died of his injuries. While these now appear to have been discredited at the time it was said that his body had been exchanged with the LROR for a number of prisoners.

Warshefana is will seeking the return of its Bashi Buhamaied, the brother of one of its commanders. Other reports have claimed that the body of Kilani, a controversial former Islamist Congress member from Zawia has also been returned.

Violence has continued in Warhsefana and the surrounding area to the west of Tripoli, which is has become the back drop to some of the fiercest fighting seen in the country since the revolution.
