Tripoli, 16 August 2014:
The speaker of the House of Representatives, Ageela Issa, has met the heads . . .[restrict]of municipal councils from across the eastern region to discuss their difficulties.
Issa met a dozen council leaders including those from Jalu, Awjila, Benghazi, Marj and Tobruk. He also met the the head for Beida Municipal Council where the meetings took place, the Libya news agency LANA reported.
Top of the agenda in all the talks was the issue of funding for local government. For many councils across the country a lack of cash and delays in sorting out the budget have hindered progress. The creation of a new crisis committee in the city of Benghazi was also discussed.
Issa said the House of Representatives and its members would to do all in their power to help the municipal councils. The council heads reaffirmed their full support for the new parliament which they said was the sole source of legitimate authority in the country.
