Tripoli, April 23:
The UK’s Minister for the Middle East . . .[restrict]and North Africa, Alistair Burt arrived in Libya on Monday for a two-day visit to the country.
“I am delighted to return to Libya, at a key stage in its transition as the Libyan people prepare for their first democratic elections in over 40 years. I look forward to reaffirming the UK’s commitment to Libya.” said Burt on his arrival.
“When in Tripoli I will discuss cooperation in the communications sector with the Libyan Government, exploring how we can best share expertise, knowledge and skills on information technology to help drive economic growth and transparency in government. I also look forward to discussing with the Prime Minister how we can work together to take forward a range of bilateral issues, including making progress on outstanding legacy issues. We will also discuss how preparations are progressing ahead of the summer elections”.
He noted that noting that the reopening of the UK visa application centre in Tripoli and the formalising of the British Embassy Office in Benghazi were “important steps towards enhanced relations between Libya and the UK and will promote stronger political, business and cultural ties”. [/restrict]
