Tripoli, 23 December:
The Minister of Local Government, Abubaker Al-Hadi Mohammed, visited Murzuk this morning to meet with the directors of the . . .[restrict]local economics faculty, Libyan news agency LANA reported.
During the visit, Mohamed met with the dean of the college, and discussed educational arrangements in the area with members of the faculty’s teaching committee.
His visit is one of several by members of the government and General National Congress (GNC) to the south of Libya in recent days, where they have been meeting residents and local officials to discuss the situation in the region.
The GNC passed a resolution declaring areas of the south, including Murzuk, a “closed military zone” and shutting off borders with Niger, Chad, Algeria and Sudan to remedy security issues.
In recent years, people, weapon and drugs smuggling have become a chronic problem in the area. [/restrict]
