The 22nd session of the Libyan-Turkish Joint Committee at the ministerial level was held in Tripoli yesterday – its first meeting in 17 years. the Tripoli government said this comes within the framework of strengthening and developing bilateral cooperation relations and activating the strategic partnership paths between Libya and Turkey,
The Libyan side was headed by Minister of Transport Mohamed Al-Shahoubi, while the Turkish side was headed by Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alp Arslan Bayrakdar, in the presence of the delegations of the two countries.
Deepening cooperation in vital sectors
The meeting focused on deepening cooperation in vital sectors that directly affect the path of economic development in Libya, foremost of which is the energy, transportation, infrastructure and logistics sectors, in addition to the fields of health, agriculture, environment, education, security and justice, in a way that promotes economic growth, supports job creation, and contributes to improving the quality of services provided to citizens.
During the meeting, the two sides stressed the importance of consolidating the institutionalization of Libyan-Turkish cooperation through the joint committee to ensure the continuity of projects, support integrated energy and transport projects, and link the development of transportation infrastructure to plans to expand energy production and industrial services.
They also emphasized the transfer of advanced Turkish expertise in the fields of construction, ports, airports and railways, opening the way for partnership between the public and private sectors, encouraging the entry of Turkish companies as technical and executive partners, in addition to facilitating procedures for joint projects and addressing outstanding technical and administrative problems to ensure quick and effective implementation.
The meeting addressed strengthening Libya’s role as a regional hub for transport and energy, taking advantage of its strategic geographical location, supporting sustainable projects with a direct impact on employment and services, in addition to facilitating visa procedures for citizens of the two countries.
At the end of the meeting, the two sides affirmed their commitment to accelerate the implementation of what has been agreed upon, and to hold periodic meetings of the Joint Committee to follow up on performance and measure results, reflecting the strength of Libyan-Turkish relations and the keenness of the two countries to turn understandings into concrete practical projects on the ground.
