Libya’s Civil Aviation Authority met at its Tripoli headquarters yesterday with a delegation from the European Union Delegation in Tripoli. The meeting was attended by the Acting Head of the Civil Aviation Authority, several specialists from the Authority, and representatives from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
Lifting EU flight ban
The meeting addressed the requirements for lifting the air embargo on Libyan airports and the necessary procedures and arrangements to expedite the exchange of information between the Authority and the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Transport.
The meeting follows up on the outcomes and recommendations of the meeting between Tripoli based Libyan Prime Minister, Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba, and the Head of the European Union Delegation in Tripoli.
The Civil Aviation Authority reported that the EU Delegation pledged to provide urgent technical support to facilitate communication and clarify responses to the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Transport. This support will include assigning an expert in aviation safety to the Authority’s headquarters to monitor compliance with the data required by the European Commission regarding the air embargo.
The Civil Aviation Authority also reported that the EU Delegation also expressed its readiness to contribute to the Authority’s development and modernization efforts to ensure compliance with international standards and requirements.
The Civil Aviation Authority added that the European Union delegation expressed its admiration for the advanced technical level of the civil aviation digital transformation system and its contribution to enhancing the capacity and efficiency of monitoring and ensuring the safety and security of civil aviation.
The Acting Head of the Civil Aviation Authority expressed his appreciation for the positive stance of the European Union delegation in Tripoli and its commitment to supporting efforts to lift the air embargo as soon as possible. He also noted the important role played by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation in this regard.
