Libyan Railroads announced yesterday that it is reviewing the various updated options available for the Tripoli City Metro Project.
The review came during a working meeting held last Sunday (24 August) at the Tripoli headquarters of Libyan Railroads and included representatives from Libyan Railways, the National Urban Planning Authority and several transportation experts and specialists.
The review, Libyan Railways reported, came within the framework of research and studies aimed at updating the proposals for the Tripoli City Metro Network Project.
Overland and surface metros and light rail lines considered
During the meeting, previous visions and agreements related to the Project were reviewed and the proposal to add elevated or surface tracks and several proposed alternatives, such as the light rail metro line in the centre of the capital, were studied.
Financing mechanisms or investment opportunities for the implementation of the project were also discussed.
Libyan Railroads said the meeting and its discussions are aimed at implementing a metro network that keeps pace with urban and economic growth and contributes to linking cities with fast and safe means of mass transportation with a large volume of passengers and goods.
Issue of tender for consultancy office for Tripoli Metro Project
It will be recalled that on the 20th of this month, and as reported by Libya Herald, Transport Minister, Mohamed Shahoubi, had tasked Libyan Railroads to issue a tender to a specialized consulting office to prepare the necessary technical studies and designs for the Tripoli City Metro.
