The Benghazi Chamber of Commerce participated in the activities of the Maghreb Banking Forum held in Tunis from 4-5 May. It says its participation comes as part of its efforts to strengthen its regional presence and support financial cooperation and economic integration among the Maghreb countries.
The chamber was represented at this event by the Director General of the Chamber and the Director of International Relations.
Benghazi Chamber said their representatives participated in discussions on the prospects of banking integration, ways to enhance trade and financial exchange, and building partnerships between the banking and private sectors.
The forum, it added, came in response to real challenges facing the Maghreb region, including:
- Absence of platforms for direct cooperation between banks.
- Weak intra-regional trade despite potential, which does not exceed 5-10%.
- The uneven impact of global crises on the countries of the region.
- Scarcity of regular channels of communication between financial institutions.
The forum was seen as a strategic platform for exchanging experiences and discussing joint financing solutions that support trade and investment and contribute to economic integration.
The forum activities included discussion sessions with banking experts and leaders which included recent issues such as cybersecurity and its role in protecting banking systems, and artificial intelligence (AI) as a tool to enhance the efficiency of operations and improve customer experience in the financial sector.
B2B meetings and exhibition
B2B meetings were also held to enhance institutional cooperation as well as a banking and trade exhibition to display the latest innovations and solutions
Benghazi Chamber said its participation in this regional event reflects its keenness to support Maghreb initiatives and open to opportunities for cooperation to enhance economic stability and contribute to achieving sustainable development in Libya and the region.
Benghazi Chamber seeking to organise forums in Benghazi
The Chamber said it looks forward to organising and hosting similar forums and conferences in Benghazi at the earliest opportunity to enhance its role as an active centre in regional economic dialogue and building institutional partnerships.
