The new Governor of the Central Bank of Libya (CBL), Naji Issa, received today the Tripoli based Libyan PM Abdel Hamid Aldabaiba, at the headquarters of the CBL. This would be the first official meeting between the two since the appointment of Governor Issa and the first official meeting of the newly appointed CBL Board of Directors last Sunday (10 November).
The CBL reports that the Governor stressed the importance of coordination between the CBL and the Aldabaiba government to serve the citizen and support the national economy.
On the other hand, it reports that Aldabaiba stressed the need to unify national efforts in order to:
- Diversify and strengthen the national economy
- Create joint programmes to support the Libyan private sector, according to basic foundations and constants
- Raise the level of coordination between the Central Bank and the Ministry of Economy and Trade regarding the import budget, and adjust it according to the needs of the local market
- Continue coordination with the Ministry of Finance to control and regulate government spending in all its sections.
It was also agreed on the importance of continuing transparency and disclosure and implementing all government procedures with high standards of transparency.
The meeting touched on preparations for the month of Ramadan (starting at the end February/beginning of March) next year, by providing basic commodities at reasonable prices and quantities.
It also discussed disbursing the necessary salaries and grants to support citizens, and joint work to provide cash liquidity, with the aim of solving one of the problems that citizens have suffered from for many years.
The Governor reviewed a number of projects planned to be implemented during 2025, which contribute to facilitating banking services for citizens and the Libyan private sector, stressing the need to coordinate with the government in some of these projects.
It was also stressed the need to regularly pay monthly salaries and grants on time, as the Governor confirmed the payment of October salaries before next Thursday.
