Economy Minister Hwej reviews his ministry’s implementation of its 2023 plan and issues several directives

The Tripoli based Libyan Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohamed Al-Hwej, met the Greek Consul in Tripoli, Agapios Kalognomi, in the presence of the Head of the Ministry’s International Cooperation Department, Faraj Al-Bey, who discussed international cooperation mechanisms and the resumption of the meetings of the Libyan-Greek Joint Committee.

Speaking exclusively to Libya Herald, the spokesman for the Ministry of Economy and Trade, Fawzi Wadi, said that the Ministry of Economy is keen to strengthen trade relations with Greece and activate bilateral agreements and memorandums of understanding concluded between the two countries in the fields of economy, trade and investment. It is also keen to increase the volume of economic cooperation, the volume of trade exchange, and discovering new opportunities for investment in the two countries.

Greek Economy Minister invited to Tripoli
Wadi referred to the invitation sent by the Ministry of Economy and Trade to the Greek Minister of Trade and Investment to visit Libya at the head of an economic and commercial delegation, where it was agreed to prepare the necessary arrangements to hold the Libyan-Greek Economic Forum early next year. The event will include the Chambers of Commerce, the Business Owners Council, and major companies in the two countries, to develop trade relations between the private sector and establishing investment partnerships in areas of common interest.

Wadi stressed the desire expressed by the Greek Consul to open direct channels of communication between government institutions and the private sector in Libya, and the importance of working to activate diplomatic and commercial cooperation, noting the desire of Greek companies to enter the labour market in Libya in the building and construction sectors, and to transfer expertise in the field of ports and maritime transport.
