Libya’s Internal Security Agency (ISA) confirmed yesterday the arrest of an American citizen for proselytising Christianity. The ISA did not name him, but U.S. media have revealed his name. A Libyan citizen has also been arrested.
The accused owns a business consultancy firm, Libya Business and worked at a private language school in Tripoli, Gateway.
In an alleged confession video published yesterday by the ISA, the American introduced himself in English then continued in Arabic. He said he lives in Tripoli and had been living in Libya for the last 12 years.
In the confession video he said Libyans visit his house to pray together.
The ISA said legal measures were taken against the American citizen and he was referred to the Office of the Attorney General.
