Dialogue session held on the repercussions of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis on food and energy supplies in Libya

Several recommendations made

The Renewable Energy Authority of Libya (REAoL) reported that it participated in yesterday’s dialogue session held on ‘‘The repercussions of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis on food and energy supplies in Libya’’.

The session was held at Tripoli’s Planning Institute and chaired by its head and Chairman of the Sustainable Development Committee, Taher Abu Alhassan, in the presence of M. Mohamed Aoun, Minister of Oil and Gas, Mohamed Auon, Taher Al-Jahmi, President of the Libyan Forum for Sustainable Development, Mahmoud Al-Futaisi, head of the National Council for Economic and Social Development, and Jamal Al-Nuwaisari, head of the Privatization and Investment Board, with the participation of a large number of experts and specialists from many relevant institutions.

The session involved nine themed mini presentations by various specialists most of which focused on reviewing the problems and difficulties that threaten global food and energy security because of the current conflict Russian-Ukrainian conflict which will affect global food and energy supplies, which in turn may affect the stability of food and energy security in Libya.

This debate concluded that this requires taking several urgent measures to exploit and employ all available resources and capabilities in the Libyan state, which would achieve full security of the necessary supplies of food and energy for the Libyan state, and to overcome this crisis and reduce its impact on the Libyan economy in general.

After an extensive discussion, several important recommendations were made, including:

  • Emphasizing the need to diversify sources of income,
  • Support the renewable energies apparatus, and move towards the use of technologies and technologies of renewable energies and energy efficiency,
  • The need to adopt clear and urgent strategies to develop the agricultural sector
  • Paying attention to agricultural research and studies centres
  • Reactivating stalled agricultural projects, especially in the southern regions, and supporting this sector

The recommendations will be submitted to the relevant competent authorities.
