The Libyan Ministry of Labour and Rehabilitation revealed in its latest statistics on Saturday that the number of job seekers in the country reached 340,954 people. The statistics covered last year up to 31 December.
A breakdown of the total number reveals that the total number of males looking for work reached 151,281, an average of 44 percent of the total number, while the number of females was 189,673, or 56 percent.
The data indicated that the percentage of qualified job seekers out of the total amounted to 58 percent, while the percentage of unqualified was 42 percent. The qualifications of job seekers ranged between holders of high school certificates to university degrees.
The highest share of those with secondary degrees was 24 percent of the total job seekers, followed by those with university degrees in engineering, manufacturing and construction at 23 percent.
The geographical distribution of job seekers within the four geographical regions used by the Ministry of Labour revealed that the western region had 43 percent, the eastern region came second with 25 percent, the central region ranked third with 19 percent, followed by the southern region with 13 percent.
