Libyan-Italian nine-point MoU on civil aviation and air transport prepared

A draft Libyan-Italian Memorandum of Understanding on civil aviation and air transport was tentatively agreed by the two sides yesterday, Libya’s Civil Aviation Authority reported.

This came on the back of an initial meeting held yesterday at the Tripoli headquarters of the Ministry of Transport between the Minister of Transport and the Ambassador of Italy to Libya.

Another technical meeting was held, which was attended on the Libyan side by the Head of the Airports Authority, the Head of the Civil Aviation Authority, the Director of Mitiga Airport, Directors of the relevant departments and offices from the Airport and Civil Aviation Authorities.

Italy was represented by its ambassador to Libya, Giuseppe Buccino Grimaldi, the Economic Advisor at the Italian embassy, ​​the Director General of the Italian Civil Aviation Authority, and aviation specialists accompanying him.

During this meeting, various aspects of cooperation between the two countries in the field of civil aviation and air transport were discussed, and it was agreed to prepare an MoU to be signed by the two sides that included a set of points of common interest, including:

1. Activating the air line between Libya and Italy.
2. The return of the transit flights over the Libyan airspace
3. Checking airports and ensuring compliance with international standards.
4. Contribution to raising the air traffic control imposed on Libya.
5. Development of air navigation systems and services.
6. Resumption of projects contracted with Italian companies.
7. Training and raising the efficiency of the human resources in the field of aviation.
8. Providing airports with operational equipment and systems.
9. Cooperation to develop airport infrastructure and facilities.
