The head of the Libyan Business Council (LBC), Abdalla Fellah and accompanying delegation met British Ambassador Nick Hopton and Lydie Sheehan, Country Director, UK Department of International Trade, at the British Embassy in Tripoli yesterday to discuss increased private sector cooperation.
The LBC said that the meeting reflects the recent developments in the Libyan political scene and its positive repercussions on the economic situation and the ensuing stability. It said it hoped this will lead to the recovery of the Libyan economy and encourage the attraction of investment projects from various countries of the world – including the UK.
Ambassador Hopton, the LBC reported, touched on the importance of the LBC in enhancing the role of the private sector in the economic process and supporting cooperative relations with British institutions corresponding to the Council.
The two sides also referred to the distinguished commercial relations between Libya and Britain, and the importance of restoring such commercial relations to their previous state as well as the return of the British embassy with its full capabilities to Libya to facilitate the movement of business leaders to Britain.
The LBC, for its part, stated that it will assist any British company wishing to invest and establish partnerships with the Libyan side for the mutual benefit of both economies.
The LBC reported that expected that the British embassy is expected to reopen and provide visa services from inside Libya soon.
