(NCDC).

London, 14 August 2020:

Libya’s Coronavirus cases continued to rise with 439 new cases and three new deaths announced yesterday by Libya’s National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC). This brought the country’s total cases to 7,050, with 6,099 active cases, 816 recoveries and 135 deaths.

6 August: Total cases 4,879 – (+404); Total deaths 107 (+8)

7 August: Total cases 5,079 – (+200); Total deaths 108 (+1)

8 August: Total cases 5,232 – (+153); Total deaths 113 (+5)

9 August: Total cases 5,541 – (+309); Total deaths 120 (+7)

10 August: Total cases 5,924 – (+383); Total deaths 125 (+5)

11 August: Total cases 6,302 – (+378); Total deaths 132 (+7)

12 August: Total cases 6,611 – (+309); Total deaths 132 (+0)

13 August: Total cases 7,050 (+439); Total deaths 135 (+3)

This continued rise in the number of new cases makes the chance of Libya’s borders reopening or of return fights operating from Mitiga less likely.

The main hotspots remain Tripoli and Misrata, with Zawia, Khoms Zliten emerging as new hotspots.

The figures remain very low on a per capita basis compared to countries such as Italy or the UK, although testing is also lower in Libya.  The figures are particularly low in eastern Libya, but testing is even lower there. Figures available suggest that testing in the east is less than 5 percent of testing in the rest of the country.
