London, 23 May 2018:
The House of Representatives (HoR) suspended its sitting held yesterday in Tobruk to discuss its relocation to Benghazi as only 13 members attended.
The sitting was called for by a number of HoR members, which HoR head Ageela Saleh had agreed to last week.
It was intended to debate moving the HoR to its constitutionally prescribed location of Benghazi after it was deemed that the city was now safe enough to host the HoR.
In opening the session, Ageela Saleh renewed his support and call for holding elections this year and called upon members to pass the necessary legislation needed. He noted that elections were needed to unify the army and state institutions which the country needs to solve its various political and economic problems.
He rebuked members for failing to attend HoR sessions, including yesterday’s which they had called for. He admitted that the HoR had failed to play its role and said that matters could not continue as they were.
