Tunis, 13 December 2017:
A widely shared letter supposedly from the Libyan National Army (LNA) to UN envoy Ghassan Salamé denouncing attacks on election centre has itself been denounced.
LNA spokesman Colonel Ahmed Mismari told the Libya Herald that document was fake. However, the LNA backed elections, he said, adding that that was that people wanted. He also claimed that in six month’s time everything would be resolved.
Over the last few days a number of election centres have been ransacked by people claiming to support of Khalifa Hafter and calling for him to be installed as president.
The head of the High National Elections Commission (HNEC), Emad Al-Sayeh, has dismissed the attacks, saying that they are not widespread.
