The Attorney General’s Office reported yesterday that the Public Prosecution has ordered the detention of the Engineering Department Manager at Waha Oil Company—who also served as the Deputy Manager of the Al-Dahra oil field rehabilitation project—as part of measures to prosecute those involved in corrupt practices that jeopardized the company's interests.

These practices involved company officials disregarding the public interest when approving actions concerning public funds.

Investigators confronted the official with allegations of abusing his position by facilitating the award of the Al-Dahra Oil Field Rehabilitation contract to an implementing entity that received $140 million USD during 2023 and 2024.

This entity, established only in 2022, lacked the necessary expertise for the assigned tasks and failed to fully execute the work according to contractual terms. Furthermore, the official approved prices submitted by the entity without verifying the work performed or reconciling it with the agreed-upon rates.

The investigator confronted the accused with the evidence and ordered his pretrial detention pending further investigation, in preparation for his referral to trial.

This follows a similar criminal case brought by the Public Prosecution last year against a former Chairman of the company's Board of Directors.
