On 1-2 November, the Misrata Free Zone (MFZ) will host the Libyan-Italian Business and Investment Forum, "Misrata 2026."
The event will bring together economic and investment institutions from both nations, with the goal of strengthening economic partnerships and opening new avenues for investment cooperation between Libya and Italy.
Trade between Libya and Italy totals €3.627 billion, including €2.622 billion in Libyan exports. Italy accounts for 24.7% of Libya’s total exports.
Alaa El-Din Baba, Director of the Marketing and International Cooperation Department at the MFZ, stated in an exclusive interview with Libya Herald that the forum represents a significant opportunity for both Libyan and Italian sides to expand investment horizons. He noted that it will foster communication and engagement among business leaders from both countries, contributing to the creation of new economic and commercial partnerships.
Baba added that MFZ aims to attract diverse investments across industrial and commercial sectors. By leveraging its existing capabilities, infrastructure, and services, the zone offers Libyan and Italian companies the chance to launch joint ventures and expand their operations within the free zone.
The forum seeks to showcase investment opportunities available within the Misrata Free Zone, highlight its operational capacity and the services it provides, and explore potential collaboration in the trade, industry, logistics, and energy sectors.
The forum’s agenda includes site visits to the free zone’s facilities and various Libyan companies and institutions. Additionally, the event will feature direct, one-on-one meetings between company representatives and investors from both sides to discuss cooperation prospects and the development of investment partnerships.
MFZ said the forum is being organized as part of efforts to strengthen Libyan-Italian economic relations, expand private sector participation in trade, and attract investments—all with the aim of bolstering economic activity and opening new avenues for cooperation between the two countries.
