Zawia Oil Refining Company announced today that, following the completion and approval of designs and engineering specifications for the Oil Blending and Packaging Plant Upgrade Project—and the commencement of manufacturing for the new equipment and production lines—the contractor has begun actual execution work at the site.
Operations started with the dismantling and removal of old production lines and equipment to prepare the area for the installation of modern systems and machinery.
The company said the project aims to modernize production lines and resolve technical and operational issues caused by the aging and deterioration of older machinery—problems that have led to frequent breakdowns and difficulties in sourcing spare parts. These outdated systems are being replaced with modern equipment designed to enhance operational efficiency while reducing maintenance costs and minimizing frequent downtime.
Output expected to rise from 40,000 tons to 100,000 tons annually
The project also targets a significant boost in the plant's production capacity; upon completion of the upgrades, output is expected to rise from approximately 40,000 tons to 100,000 tons annually. Additionally, the upgrade incorporates modern technologies into the engine oil blending and packaging processes.
The project includes an overhaul of the product packaging system, introducing the manufacture of plastic containers that meet global quality specifications. This shift helps lower production costs and eliminates the expenses associated with the materials required for metal containers.
Semi-synthetic and fully synthetic oils used in modern vehicles
Furthermore, the project will enable the plant to produce a wide range of automotive engine oil grades and types—including semi-synthetic and fully synthetic oils used in modern vehicles—in compliance with international specifications and standards.
Zawia Oil Refining Company said the implementation of this project aligns with the drive to modernize and upgrade its production facilities and leverage modern technologies, thereby enhancing production efficiency and product quality while delivering superior economic returns for the plant.
