The Minister of Economy and Trade reported yesterday that it discussed with the Ambassador of France to Libya ways to strengthen economic and trade relations between the two countries.
The discussions also followed up on the development of the volume of trade, in a way that contributes to expanding the horizons of cooperation and opening new areas for investment between the two sides.
The meeting dealt with several files related to French companies operating in Libya, and the follow-up of existing obligations towards them, in order to support efforts to settle outstanding files, and contribute to creating a suitable business environment to expand the activity of French companies and enhance their presence in the Libyan market.
Implementation of the Unified Spending Agreement
The Minister pointed out that the implementation of the Unified Spending Agreement (between the politically divided western and eastern Libya) will contribute to improving the business environment and enhance compliance and transparency, which will reflect positively on the growth of commercial transactions and expanding opportunities for economic cooperation
Resumption of direct flights between Libya and France
The two sides discussed the importance of the resumption of direct flights between Libya and France, which returned to work as of Thursday, 17 September, after a long hiatus since 2014. This, the Ministry said, represents an important step in enhancing the movement of business leaders and investors, facilitating communication between companies and economic institutions in the two countries, and supporting the growth of trade and investment relations.
Granting visas from Tripoli to enhance business links
The meeting also discussed the administrative procedures related to the activation of consular services at the French Embassy, in a way that contributes to facilitating visa procedures and enhancing the business movement between the two countries.
