The Tripoli based Minister of Housing and Construction, Issam Al-Tamouni, received the French Ambassador to Libya, Thierry Vallat, at his office yesterday. The Ambassador was accompanied by the Head of the Economic Section and the Third Secretary of the Embassy. The meeting was also attended by the Undersecretary for Affected Areas Affairs, the Director of the International Cooperation Department, and the Minister’s Advisor.
The Minister welcomed the Ambassador, emphasizing the importance of strengthening cooperation between Libya and France and opening new avenues for collaboration in areas of mutual interest, thereby supporting development and reconstruction efforts.
Readiness of French companies to contribute to implementation of various Libya projects
For his part, the Ministry reported, the French Ambassador expressed the readiness of French companies to contribute to and participate in the implementation of various projects in Libya, highlighting the French side's interest in bolstering economic and investment cooperation between the two nations.
Obligations of French companies toward the Libyan state arising from concluded contracts
The meeting addressed several issues related to bilateral cooperation, including the obligations of French companies toward the Libyan state arising from contracts concluded in the past. Discussions also covered ways to encourage French investors—both individuals and companies—to enter the Libyan investment market and capitalize on opportunities across various sectors.
Several projects planned for implementation
The Minister also outlined several projects and programmes that the Tripoli government intends to implement. These include establishing free trade zones, opening the road to the south, and developing new urban areas in southern Libya to foster urban and economic growth and support the expansion of development projects.
Concluding the meeting, both sides underscored the importance of maintaining communication and coordination, as well as following up on areas of cooperation, to serve mutual interests and strengthen relations between Libya and France.
