Misrata Free Zone (MFZ) announced on 22 September that progress on the C9 Petroleum Project, a major downstream industrial venture, has reached 80 percent completion.
MFZ said the C9 Petroleum Company’s facilities are expected to officially commence operations in November 2026.
It will be recalled that in January this year MFZ had signed an investment agreement with C9 Petroleum.
The development is classified under specialized petroleum and chemical industries (specifically Industry Group No. 19). Its core operations include:
Refining and Distillation: Processing and distilling petroleum products.
Specialty Chemical Production: Manufacturing industrial solvents and specialty chemical compounds.
Lubricants and Oils: Large-scale production of industrial oils, lubricants, and related derivative products.
The project aligns with MFZ’s efforts to diversify the industrial base of the free trade zone. It is designed to strengthen localized supply chains, foster the development of downstream petrochemical industries, and support higher-value manufacturing within Libya.
MFZ said C9 Petroleum’s decision to establish its investment in Libya’s MFZ reinforces role as a hub for industry and logistics and a platform for value-added projects.
