The Central Bank of Libya (CBL) announced today that it will resume the publication of its monthly revenue and expenditure bulletins starting early next September.
This, after the CBL ceased to publish these statistics for several months.
Moreover, recognising its error, the CBL assured that it will be publishing all the monthly revenues and expenditure data from January this year.
This move, the CBL added, aims to bolster transparency and financial and economic disclosure.
It is unclear why the CBL had decided to stop publishing the monthly figures. What is clear, however, is that it has attracted much criticism.
The lack of the usual publication of monthly revenue and expenditure figures, for all the debate about their accuracy and at times inconsistency with the Ministry of Oil and Gas and the National Oil Corporation's statistics, has created a cloud over the integrity of the CBL and its Governor with regards to transparency and disclosure.
