The Libyan Fertilizer Company (LIFCO) announced yesterday that it took delivery on 22 July of a new (Siwertell type-1A) urea ship-loader arm.
LIFCO said this is a new strategic milestone to enhance export capabilities and ensure the sustainability of production operations.
The ship-loader was safely offloaded and positioned onto its designated rail at the company’s urea loading berth.
This, it added, marked one of the most important logistical and technical operations the company has witnessed in recent years.
The company informed that this strategic project replaces the previous ship-loader arm, which had exceeded four decades of service. The old unit had posed operational and technical challenges, directly impacting safety and reliability levels.
The new ship-loader arm represents a qualitative leap in the urea export system; it serves as the primary artery for loading and export operations and contributes directly to enhancing performance efficiency and operational sustainability.
The new ship-loader arm boasts several technical features that boost export efficiency, most notably:
- A loading capacity of 1,000 metric tons of urea per hour—double the capacity of the previous arm.
- The ability to load vessels of various sizes and capacities, accommodating loads of up to 25,000 metric tons.
- Enhanced operational safety and environmental reliability in accordance with the latest standards.
- Improved loading efficiency and reduced vessel loading times.
- Ensured continuity of export operations and reduced likelihood of unplanned shutdowns.
- It is equipped with automated systems to prevent urea dust leakage during the loading process. This contributes to minimizing dust emissions, preserving the environment, ensuring compliance with international environmental standards, and mitigating the risk of fines or environmental liabilities associated with industrial pollution.
