Libya’s state National Oil Corporation (NOC) reported yesterday that the production rates of the B1-NC 216A exploration well, located within Block NC 216 in the Ghadames Basin of western Libya, have achieved outstanding and unprecedented results, exceeding expectations. The well recorded a flow rate exceeding 2,000 barrels per day, confirming the presence of highly productive reservoirs and opening promising prospects for developing the region.
Integrated geological and reservoir studies and advanced analysis of 3D seismic survey data
This achievement is the result of integrated geological and reservoir studies conducted by Sirte Oil Company, supported by advanced analysis of 3D seismic survey data. This enabled the technical teams to identify targets with high precision, select optimal drilling locations, and target the most productive reservoirs with outstanding operational efficiency.
Discovery represents significant leap forward in exploration activities
This discovery represents a significant leap forward in exploration activities within the block, as preparations are currently underway to drill the third well in the coming days. This well is expected to contribute to increasing production rates to more than 4,000 barrels per day, thereby enhancing the block’s economic value and supporting future development plans.
The NOC said this success represents an important step towards transforming this block into a new oil field, adding to the company’s existing fields and strengthening its position within the oil and gas sector. This is all thanks to the diligent follow-up by Masoud Suleiman, Chairman of the NOC who continuously emphasizes the need to expand exploration activities in all oil blocks and to work towards integrating them into the production system as soon as possible, thus contributing to maximizing reserves and increasing production rates.
It is also worth noting that the National Oil Corporation made significant discoveries in various sedimentary basins last year, and has made five discoveries this year, in line with its policy to replenish produced reserves and bring new fields into production, thus contributing to increasing the country’s oil and gas production capacity.
