Misrata Free Zone (MFZ) announced today that its Director General, Ayman Al-Darwish, signed a memorandum of understanding with Egyptian company MAPSO Marine Propulsion, which specializes in marine technology and the supply of ship equipment and systems.
The signing took place on the sidelines of the 15th International Maritime Transport and Logistics Conference (MARLOG 15), held in Alexandria, Egypt from 8 – 10 February.
Consolidation MFZ as a regional hub
MFZ said this step comes as part of its participation as a diamond sponsor of the conference, affirming its leading role in supporting maritime development and strengthening strategic partnerships that contribute to consolidating its position as a regional hub for logistics and maritime industries.
The memorandum includes broad areas of cooperation, most notably:
– The construction of marine fishing vessels as a first phase within the free zone.
– The gradual expansion into the construction and maintenance of various types of marine vessels, including tugboats, boats, drilling rigs, and marine cranes. The exchange of expertise and technical skills will contribute to raising performance levels and developing the capabilities of workers in the Misrata Free Zone.
MFZ reported that MAPSO, established in 1976, is a leading company in marine propulsion and the supply of marine components and systems for ships, with extensive experience in outfitting various types of marine vessels.
Establishing integrated shipbuilding centre and localising maritime industries
MFZ said this memorandum will support its strategic project to establish an integrated shipbuilding and maintenance centre within the port, a project that represents one of the most important pillars of its plan to localize maritime industries in Libya and enhance the competitiveness of national ports.
