The US president’s Senior Adviser for African affairs, Massad Boulos, announced on his X social media account that he had brought together senior officials from western and eastern Libya in Paris, for what he described as “fruitful discussions” aimed at supporting Libyan efforts to achieve national unity and long-term stability.
This is the first official announcement of confirming a meeting reported by Libyan media to have been held on January 28 at the Élysée Palace, coordinated by France and the United States.
The meeting brought together two delegations, one headed by Field Marshal Saddam Khalifa Haftar, deputy commander of the “General Command,” and the other by Ibrahim Aldabaiba, Advisor to the Tripoli based Libyan Prime Minister, Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba.
Boulos stated that last week’s Paris meeting “is in line with President Trump’s broader peace agenda,” emphasizing that “these Libyan efforts are essential for Libya’s prosperity, building a thriving economy, and a promising future for its people.”
