Aldabaiba speaks on the economic crisis, cabinet reshuffle, elections and Qaddafi supporters in his 15th anniversary of 17 Feb 2011 Revolution speech

Libya commemorates the 15th anniversary of the February 17th, 2011, Revolution that ended the 42-year Qaddafi regime (Graphic: GNU).

In a statement (published last Tuesday 17 February) commemorating the fifteenth anniversary of the 17 February Revolution, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Defence, Major General Abdel Salam Zoubi, affirmed that Libyans, in a historic moment, chose dignity and overthrew a regime, recalling the sacrifices of the martyrs who wrote the first chapter in the march toward freedom with their blood.

Building a state through rule of law – not force
Zoubi emphasized that the greatest challenge lies in building a state that cannot be hijacked and is governed by the rule of law, not by force. He asserted that revolutions ignite the spark, but states are built through institutions.

Nees for a professional, unified army
The Undersecretary explained that establishing a stable state requires a professional and unified national army (as opposed to militias) that adheres to the law, safeguards sovereignty, and protects national decisions. He stressed that strengthening the prestige of the military institution is a cornerstone of stability and a guarantee of security.
